Joburg is one of Africa’s biggest metropolis boasting of top of the range restaurants and hotels. The best thing about the city is the skyline at sunset – so if you want to experience Joburg in its full glory the best time to go out is late afternoon to evening.
If you are going to any restaurant make sure to call ahead because these places are buzzing and fully booked. If you prefer the club scene you’ll have to be prepared to separate with a lot of rands for a premium experience. Or if you prefer anything adrenaline rushing there’s a wide range of water parks and recreational centres for the whole family. When it comes to entertainment in Africa, this city will expose you to world class experiences.
The glitzy Sandton suburb is Africa’s richest square mile – you can expect to bump into international stars like Davido or Tom Cruise and see the best view of the skyline at the tallest skyscraper The Leonardo. If you want to experience the real culture of the city then Melville and Greenside are home to Joburg natives, their people and how they do things. The restaurants boast a variety of food choices and are not that steep minimum on the pocket.
Now if you want to experience Joburg city culture then tucked deep in the cbd is Maboneng and kwa Mai Mai. Here you’ll find experimental African cuisine like the famous Africanese- a sushi bar that incorporates African flavour to the Japanese delicacy like biltong and beef.
You’ll get to experience the night life from inside Africa’s urban jungle. And finally if you want the Kasu vibe then Soweto is the place to be – from renowned street where not one but two Nobel prize winners once live Vilakazi, to chisanyama spots like Chaf Pozi that attract locals and internationals alike. Grab a beer and eat some braai meat and immerse yourself in township culture.
If you are the fine dinning type of person – restaurants on the outskirts of this city deep in the terrains of game lodges and animal parks are headed by internationally acclaimed chefs. Whatever you are looking for, Johannesburg will have it.
